UDC No. 1 Doubles Pair Victorious in Firebirds’ 8-1 Season-Opening Loss to Georgetown

WASHINGTON, DC – The Firebirds' No. 1 doubles pair of seniors Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto gutted out an impressive, 9-8(3) victory over Charlie Sharton and Will Sharton, but the University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated in its season-opener, 8-1, by Division I cross town rival Georgetown University on a gorgeous Monday afternoon at UDC Tennis Courts.

Bozic and Pinto, who finished last season ranked No. 3 in the ITA NCAA Division II East Region Doubles Team poll, battled through three tiebreak points before pulling through for the victory. UDC trailed 2-1 heading into singles play after narrow losses at No. 2 and 3 doubles.

The Firebirds were unable to claim any victories in singles play, though, Bozic – a First Team All-ECC selection and No. 6 ranked ITA Division II East Region singles player in last year's final ranking – put Hoyas' No. 1 singles player Mark Militzer to the test before falling, 6-3, 6-1. Second Team All-ECC selection, senior Alexis Baguelin, also put forth a quality effort at No. 2 singles before falling, 6-4, 6-1 to Luke Ross.

UDC will return to action next week, Monday, September 18th with a home match vs. Harford Community College at 3 p.m.
