Pericet Nets Firebirds' Lone Goal in Season Opener

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team fell to Shepherd University 1-3, Thursday afternoon at the RFK Fields. The Firebirds fell to 0-1 on the season, while the Rams improved to 1-0.

Ignacio Pericet scored the Firebirds lone goal off of a penalty kick in the first half. Santiago Gordillo Martinez had two shots on goal but the Firebirds combined for a total of four shots the entire game, while the Rams finished with 12. 

The Rams struck early in the first half, scoring 3:58 into play. UDC evened the score 16 minutes later and brought the first half to a close in a tie. Shepherd took the lead roughly four minutes into the second half and pulled away to a 3-1 lead, after a red card left the Firebirds playing a man down the rest of the way. Next up, UDC (0-1) will head to Pennsylvania on Sunday to face off against Seton Hill. Kick-off is set for 4:00PM.
