UDC Men’s Soccer Blanks Slippery Rock, 2-0

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout victory vs. Slippery Rock University in non-regional play Wednesday afternoon.

The Firebirds (2-2-1) bounced back after consecutive road losses last week via an outstanding defensive effort. UDC allowed only nine total shots, of which, only four were on goal, and junior transfer goalkeeper Daniel Eisenhauer stopped all four shots he faced to preserve the complete game shutout in his Firebird debut.

UDC sophomore midfielder Gabriel Velluto was credited with the assist on a Slippery Rock own goal which put the hosts on the board just over three minutes into the action. Both teams were then scoreless for nearly 78 minutes before senior midfielder Brandon Rios finished off a beautiful feed by sophomore midfielder Danillo Beserra for the four-year veteran's first career goal and some Firebird insurance.

The Firebirds would not wind up needing the insurance, however, as the UDC defensive unit held Slippery Rock (1-3-1) to just two shots and one corner kick in the second half.

The Rock's goalkeeper Matt Hunsberger made seven saves and allowed two goals in a complete game effort.

UDC was scheduled to host Queens for its East Coast Conference opener Sat., Sept. 15, but because of the impending storm, the Firebirds will travel up to Flushing, NY to play the Knights. Time of the game is to be announced.
