No. 16 Firebirds Fall, 3-1 at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, PA – The No. 16 University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat vs. host Seton Hill University on Sat., Sept. 8 at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.

The Firebirds (1-2-1) have now lost back-to-back games where they fell behind 2-0 and could never recover. Seton Hill improved to 2-0-1 with today's win.

Inopportune fouls proved costly for UDC in the first half. First, Colin Watson opened the scoring a little over 11 minutes in on a free kick from the left side that he curved around a few Firebird defenders into the top left portion of the net for the Griffins which put the hosts up, 1-0. Then, a little over 10 minutes later, Henrik Berg added a 2nd goal for SHU on a penalty kick.

UDC, which was out-shot 6-4 in the first half, got on the board right at the 36-minute mark with a goal by junior forward Malik Thom. The assist was credited to senior midfielder Gabriel Torres for his free kick he played into the box.

With that goal, UDC cut the deficit in half and trailed by only one goal going into halftime.

Momentum did not carry over, however, as UDC still only managed five second half shots and put only one on goal. While the Firebirds were shut out in the 2nd half, the Griffins added an insurance goal by Alex Dyson in the 77th minute.

Next up, UDC will host its season home opener on Wed., Sept. 12 vs. Slippery Rock University.
