Three Firebirds Earn Men’s Lacrosse All-East Coast Conference Honors

WEST BABLYON, NY – University of the District of Columbia's senior midfielder LaRon Hinton was named Men's Lacrosse All-East Coast Conference First Team, senior faceoff specialist Teilen Celentano was named All-ECC Second Team, and sophomore midfielder Alan Singleton was named All-ECC Second Team in an announcement by the league office on Thursday, May 3rd. The voting was conducted by the conference head coaches.

The UDC men's lacrosse program now boasts  nine All-east Coast Conference honors in five years, with Hinton being the first Firebird to earn First  Team honors.  Celentano claims his third consecutive All-Conference team, while, Singleton earns his first conference accolade as a Firebird.

Hinton was three points short of breaking his own UDC single-season program record with 54 points, and he also gathered 32 goals and an impressive 22 assists. He ranks 5th in the ECC for assists and is in the top 10 in the conference for goals, along with ranking 6th in points.

The Woodbridge, VA native broke the UDC record this year with most points ever earned by a Firebird overtaking Chase Fraser with an incredible 128 points done in a span of three seasons. Hinton also managed to have an assist in each 12 of his 15 game splayed this season making him on the of most fierce attacking players in the conference.

Celentano, meanwhile, exploded to new UDC single-season program records in faceoff wins (271) and ground balls (157). His 271 faceoff wins this season smash his previous record of 160 set in 2017 and his .727 faceoff winning percentage ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division II and 2nd  in the ECC. Also, his 157 ground balls are 1st in the ECC and his 10.47 ground balls per game places him 3rd in the nation.

The Ottawa, Ontario native registered 14 points off seven goals and seven assists, this season, scoring a season-high two goals in the game against Wilmington. 

Dominant in face-offs, Celentano, went 21-23 in the first game against Felician University, and on numerous occasions throughout the season was just three short of winning all face-offs in a game. With the 16-14 win over Georgian Court he went an impressive 30-33 on face-offs.

Singleton, a sophomore, was in electric form in front of goal for the Firebirds this season taking 41 goals and joining LaRon Hinton as the UDC record holder for most goals in a single-season. He also added 14 assists to give him 55 points in the season to rank him 4th in the ECC for points and fell two short of Hinton's single-season record of 57.

The Montreal, Canada native ranks 3rd in the conference for goals and 6th for a shooting percentage of .488 to also place him 9th in the nation. Singleton, got a game-high of six goals in one game in the defeat to Chestnut Hill. And on two occasions managed to grab five goals, first in the win over Georgian Court and in the loss to Mercy.

Hinton, Celentano, and Singleton led the 5th year Firebird men's lacrosse program to school records of eight wins in 2018. Under second-year head coach Rodger Colbert, UDC also finished the 2018 season with program records for team goals (187) and team assists (105).
