Firebirds Fall in Narrow, 10-7 defeat to Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team lost in a slender 10-7 defeat to East Coast Conference rivals Roberts Wesleyan, Saturday afternoon at Roberts Wesleyan College outdoor stadium.

The Firebirds (8-6, 1-4 ECC) were involved in a cagey opening quarter battle that saw them lead 2-1. UDC started the 2nd quarter the way they started the 1st by scoring a goal by Singleton off a Hart assist.

The District of Columbia controlled the 3rd quarter taking four consecutive goals with Singleton scoring the remaining three of his goals in the game.

A 4th quarter comeback saw the Redhawks pull back to win 10-7. UDC was led by the efforts of sophomore Alan Singleton who scored four goals and one assist to move into third in the ECC in goals with 40 and joint second for points with 54 and Edmund Taylor with two goals and one assist.

Senior Teilen Celentano went 13-19 on face-offs to move into fourth place in Division II for face-off winning percentage with .736, and took five ground balls to place him second in Division II for ground balls per game.

Roberts Wesleyan improved to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They were carried by Kyle Dunham with three goals and one assist.

The Firebirds will host NYIT in their final game of the season, Saturday, April 28th, where UDC will honor Teilen Celentano, Zach Hart, and LaRon Hinton for a special day that includes faculty and staff appreciation day and a Make-A-Wish fundraiser.
