Firebirds Suffer Loss to #12 LIU Post

BROOKVILLE, NY- The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team were overcome by the LIU Post Pioneers 18-7 in the East Coast Conference battle placing the Firebirds 1-3 in the ECC.

The Firebirds (8-5, 1-3 ECC) fought hard against the Pioneers could not keep up scoring one goal by sophomore attackman Alan Singleton in the first quarter. During the second quarter the Firebirds put up two goals also from Alan Singleton with an assist from junior attackman Tyler Mace. By the start third quarter the Pioneers held the Firebirds with a five goal lead 8-3, however, towards the end of the third the Firebirds picked up two goals from senior midfielder LaRon Hinton with an assist from senior attackman Zach Hart and freshman attackman Turner Allison also assisted by Zach Hart. At the end of the third the score rested 12-5. In the fourth quarter the Firebirds continued to fight but could not catch up resulting in the 18-7 loss.

The offensive leader for the Firebirds was sophomore attackman Alan Singleton with three goals and one assist. Senior LaRon Hinton added two goals, senior midfielder Teilen Celentano scored one goal and freshman attackman Turner Allison scored one goal. Senior attackman Zach Hart had two assists.

Defensively, junior goalkeeper Nikolas-Lund-Murray had 12 saves on 30 shots. Sophomore defender Connor Mosby had 4 groundballs and sophomore defender Garrin Adolphe had three groundballs.

The Pioneers were led offensively by junior attackman Thomas Liantonio with four goals one assist, freshman attackman William Snelders three goals, senior midfielder Dylan Harned with two goals one assist and sophomore attackman Nick Grassa with one goal and three assists.

This Saturday the Firebirds will take on ECC opponent Roberts Weslayn in Rochester, NY at 3:00 pm
