Thrilling Matchup sees UDC take 16-14 Win over Georgian Court

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team was involved in a hard fought close contest as they faced off against Georgian Court University Saturday afternoon at the UDC Sports Complex. However, the Firebirds improve to 7-1 after today's 16-14 victory over the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) who fell to a 4-4 overall record.

Sophomore Alan Singleton's striking final quarter included five goals and one assist. His Canadian teammate Turner Allison added three goals and one assist and junior Zach Hart contributed three goals and three assists.

Senior Teilen Celentano proved a catalyst in the Firebirds victory, winning 29-of-32 face-offs to earn 1st place in the East Coast Conference on face-offs with an average of 88.0%.

Georgian Court proved to be one of UDC's toughest opponents this season and were led by senior's Patrick Quinn on four goals and Jeffrey Galatola on three goals and one assist. Goalie Austin Geissel stood tall for the Lions as he made an outstanding 25 saves off 41 shots.

The 1st quarter was a back-and-forth battle that saw both sides take three goals. The 2nd quarter livened up with both teams looking to make a statement. UDC pushed after two quick goals by Allison and Hart to make it 5-3. However, Georgian Court replied back with their own answer by grabbing three goals to make it 6-5. The quarter was not over as UDC showed their character to score three more goals to put the pressure on the Lions. But it would be the visitors who would take a slender 9-8 lead going into the 2nd half.

Both teams went quiet in the 3rd quarter but it was UDC's opponents who fought their way to an 11-9 lead at the end of the 3rd. With the game looking increasingly tense going into the final quarter it would be the Firebirds who scored seven goals to take the win after fine play by juniors Syyrus Nash and Zach Hart, along with the noticeable performance of Singleton who made the defining difference in the latter stages of the game to make it 16-14 in team District of Columbia effort.

The Firebirds will be back in action, Tuesday, March 27th at Chestnut Hill at 7PM.
