Firebirds Ease to 16-6 Win Against Davis & Elkins

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team continued their impressive start to the season with another resounding 16-6 win over Davis & Elkins on a cold Friday evening at Cooper Field on the campus of Georgetown University.

The Firebirds have started the season in outstanding fashion going 4-0 in their opening games. Junior attack Zach Hart contributed four goals, three assists, and eight groundballs to lead UDC in their victory. Sophomore Edmund Taylor was again in fine form as he sscored four goals, and senior midfielder Teilen Celentano notched a remarkable 18-23 on face-offs.

UDC proved stern in defense with sophomore goalkeeper Nikolas Lund-Murray seeing 17 shots and saving 11 of the shots to only allow six goals in the game.

Davis & Elkins now (0-2) got off to a slow start allowing the Firebirds to take a fast lead. With an uphill battle on their hands they were helped by sophomore Matthew Dyck who provided them with two goals and one assist.

The District of Columbia got off to another superb start when a Zach Hart assist gave freshman Turner Allison the chance to put the Firebirds in control early on. That was followed by four more goals by senior LaRon Hinton, Turner Allison, Edmund Taylor, and Zach Hart. With 48 seconds remaining on the clock in the 1st quarter junior Syrrus Nash scored an excellent goal off another Hart assist to take the 1st quarter 6-1.

With UDC in full swing they gave up one goal in the 2nd quarter to end the half 11-2. A better defensive showing in the 2nd half by the Senators made it difficult for the Firebirds to continue their goal spree, and with the visitors scoring three goals in the 3rd quarter any sign of complacency was rid by the terrific work of sophomore Alan Singleton who scored giving UDC a 14-5 lead going into the final quarter.

The District of Columbia conceded one goal and score two goals to end the contest and remain unbeaten in their first four games of the season.

Due to weather related damage on the field at the UDC Sports Complex, the Monday, March 5th game vs. Alderson Broaddus has been postponed.
