Smith Erupts at the Three-Point Line going 5-5; Firebirds Ousted by Chargers

Orangeburg, N.Y.- Senior Forward Aaren Smith went a perfect 5-5 at the three-point line to make up a season high 21 points in the Firebirds first game of the New Year. UDC fell to Dominican College 84-66 on Thursday Evening at the Hennessy Center. The Firebirds fell to an overall record of 5-9 on the season while the Chargers improved to 10-3.

Smith led the Firebirds with 21 points and Cheyenne Nettleton came off the bench to contribute 13 points and six assists. 

The Chargers took the lead from the first half outscoring the Firebirds 46-31, going 58.1% at the field and holding UDC to 41.9%. Smith scored 13 of his 21 points in the first half going 3-6 from the field and 3-3 from the three-point line. The second half saw Dominican College only outscoring UDC by three points 38-35. Nettleton scored all 13 of his points in the second half to lead the field but despite their efforts the Firebirds eventually fell to the Chargers 84-66.

Next up UDC (5-9, 1-2 ECC) will host Wilmington on Monday January 6that 7:00pm at the UDC Gymnasium.
