UDC Men’s Basketball Ousted by Goldey-Beacom College

Wilmington, DE- The University of the District of Columbia's Men's Basketball Team fell to Goldey-Beacom College 86-77, on Wednesday evening at the Jones Center. Senior guard Kerry Kirkwood led the Firebirds with a season high 16 points, but the Firebirds fell to 4-5 on the season.

Kirkwood was on fire going 4-9 from the three point line and 6-13 from the field. He also contributed a game high six assists and a team high four steals. Senior guard Aaren Smith went 5-9 from the field, 1-2 from the three point line and 3-4 from the free throw line to total 14 points. Smith also grabbed a team high eight rebounds.

Goldey-Beacom was able to hold UDC at a 41.2 shot percentage from the field while going 55.4%.. The First half saw the Lightning outscoring the Firebirds 45-32. Nazim Derry came off the bench to score 13 points going a perfect 3-3 from the three point line and 5-6 from the field. The Firebirds made it on the scoreboard first with a three-point jumper from Jahmir Marable Williams almost twenty seconds into the game. The Firebirds went on to lead up until a layup made by Jesiah West at 13:44 gave the Lightning their first lead of the game which eventually opened up to 12 points going into the half.

UDC came back the second half to outscore Goldey-Beacom 45-42 with Smith leading the way scoring all of his 14. Kirkwood was right behind him with 11 points going 3-6 from the three point line. The Firebirds were able to bring the deficit down to nine points but it wasn't enough as the Lightning end up walking away with the 86-77 victory.

Next up the Firebirds will host Molloy College in their first Conference game of the season on Saturday December 7th at 3:00pm.
