UDC Men’s Basketball Falls to Slippery Rock 78-67

Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon at the UDC Gymnasium. The Firebirds were led by Sophomore transfer guard Jahmir Marable Williams who put up a season high 17 points.

Williams went a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line and 5-9 from the field to total a team high 17 points. Juanye Colon and Zachary Olukanni registered 14 points apiece and Aaren Smith put up 12 points and 5 rebounds. 

First half: Slippery Rock outshot UDC 39-27 shooting at  44.4% from the field and going 4-10 from the three-point line. Olukanni led the Firebirds with eight points going 3-5 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line. The Rock made it on the scoreboard first after a jump shot by Robinson Williams landed in the net during their second possession. A layup by Consolo Adams and a three pointer from Smith at 17:05 made it a three-point game with the Firebirds down. The Rock would eventually pull away to lead the game with a 12-point lead going into the half. 

Second half: Slippery Rock improved to a 50% shooting percentage from the field while holding UDC to 38.9%. Williams scored 13 of his 17 points going 4-6 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line. Colon scored 10 of his 14 points and grabbed a game high four steals. The Firebirds were able to cut the 12 point lead to just eight points but the Rock eventually pulled away to win the game 78-67. Slippery Rock improved to 4-3 on the season while UDC fell to 4-4. 

UDC (4-4) will head on the road to face off against Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday December 7that 7:00pm.
