Kevin Cox Surpasses 1,000 Points as the Firebirds Win on the Road

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Senior guard Kevin Cox surpassed 1,000 points for his career as he scored 17 points in the University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team's 102-70 victory at LIU Post. Four Firebirds finished in double figures. Freshman guard Juanye Colon led the Firebirds with 23 points  on 7-12 shooting from the three point line, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Junior guard Zachary Olukanni extended his double figures scoring streak to six games by scoring 18 points on 7-14 shooting.

Kevin Cox scored a combined 487 points at Oklahoma Seminole State College and Kingsborough Community College over two seasons.. Needing 12 points to reach 1,000, he eclipsed the mark with a pair of free throws with 2:35 left in the first half. Cox finished the game with 17 points, six rebounds, and four blocks. Junior guard Kerry Kirkwood added 12 points and five assists. The Pioneers were led by Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor who finished the game with a double double of 26 points and 19 rebounds. The Firebirds led in every statistical category, the most impressive of them all is the 53 percent shooting from the three point line.

The Firebirds will stay on the road and travel to Old Westbury, NY to take on NYIT Saturday, February 9th. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
