Amadou Gallo Falls, a former University of the District of Columbia basketball player is the Director of Scouting for the NBA Dallas Mavericks. Falls graduated magna cum laude from UDC in 1993 with a degree in biology.

Men's Basketball Ends 2005-06 Season

Johnstown, PA- The University of the District of Columbia Men’s Basketball team completed an exciting, but frustrating season at the end of February 2006, with a 1-22 record. Though this record does not highlight the level of passion and heart that the Firebirds displayed, it should be noted that the players and coaches maintained unity throughout a plethora of obstacles.

Johnstown, PA: The University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats handed the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds their final loss of the 2005-06 season today, 94-52. Pitt-Johnstown showed the undermanned Firebirds no mercy as they out shot and out scored their opponent 51 percent to 25 for the game.
UDC FIREBIRDS DEFEAT JOHNSON & WALES 72-61 TO GARNER FIRST WIN OF SEASON

Fort Myers, Florida: The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds defeated the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats 72-61 this afternoon in the second round of the Independent Schools Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida to win their first game of the 2005-06 season. UDC restarted its basketball program this past fall after cancelling its 2004-05 season, and brought in new Head Coach Julius L. Smith, Jr., to rebuild the program.
UDC FIREBIRDS CAME CLOSE BUT COULD NOT GET THE WIN

Washington, DC: The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Basketball team came close to their first win of the season tonight, but could not put the St. Paul’s College Tigers away, losing 61-63, at home. In a game during which the score was tied – 6 times, and the lead changed- 12 times, the Firebirds did not have the manpower to put this game in their win column.
UDC FIREBIRDS FAIL TO AVENGE LOSS TO ST. AUGUSTINE’S

Raleigh, NC- The University of the District Columbia Firebirds traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina on January 12, hoping to avenge an earlier loss to the Saint Augustine’s Mighty Falcons in Washington. Alas, it was not to happen, as the Mighty Falcons would not relent and went on to beat the Firebirds by the score of 76-67.
FORMER UDC BASKETBALL PLAYERS NOMINATED TO NCAA ELITE EIGHT 50TH ANNIVERSARY TEAM

Washington, DC— The National Collegiate Athletic Association recently announced the names of former Division II basketball players who were nominated to its 50th Anniversary Men’s Elite Eight Basketball All-Tournament Team, which included University of the District of Columbia All-Americans Michael Britt and Earl Jones. They were members of the 1982 University of the District of Columbia NCAA Division II National Basketball Championship Team, and the 1983 UDC NCAA Division II National Basketball Championship Runner-up Team.
BOWIE STATE BULLDOGS TOO MUCH FOR UDC FIREBIRDS TO HANDLE

Bowie, Maryland: The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds found themselves in what are now becoming all too familiar circumstances when they faced the Bowie State University Bulldogs tonight at Bowie. The under manned Firebirds stayed close to the Bulldogs in the opening minutes of the game in this annual cross town rivalry, but couldn’t keep up with the bigger, more seasoned Bulldogs losing to them by the score of 54-78.
ALDERSON-BROADDUS DELIVERS A BLOW TO UDC

Washington, DC: The Alderson-Broaddus Battlers handed the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds their 10th consecutive defeat tonight, 68-56, in the UDC Gymnasium. The 12-point loss was very painful to the young and struggling Firebirds. The final score really does not tell the entire story.
SOUTH DAKOTA DEFEATS UDC IN BASKETBALL

Washington, DC: The University of South Dakota Coyotes paid their first official basketball visit to the District of Columbia tonight and made quite an impression on University of the District of Columbia fans by defeating the Firebirds 76-59. The Coyotes were led by senior All-American forward Turner Trofholz who gave quite a performance with a double double scoring 23 points, on 8-9 two point field goals shooting, 2-5 three point field goals, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing out 1 assist. Dustin Little followed with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Jesse Becker added 12 points while giving 5 assists.
SAINT AUGUSTINE’S DEFEATS UDC IN BASKETBALL CONTEST

Washington, DC: The Saint Augustine’s Mighty Falcons defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds basketball team by the score of 99-68, in the UDC gymnasium tonight. It was the seventh consecutive loss for the fledgling Firebirds, who are in a rebuilding year after the cancellation of their 2004-05 season.

Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds were out gunned by the Salem International Tigers, 77-42, in basketball action tonight in Washington, DC. After a slow start, Salem turned up the heat and outscored the the Firebirds 36-19 at the end of the first half, hitting 45 percent of their shots from the field.

Washington, DC: Clarion University of Clarion, Pennsylvania defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds basketball team 81-50 tonight in Washington, DC. After a close first half that ended with Clarion leading by only 7 points, 37-24, the Golden Eagles turned up the heat in the second half outscoring the Firebirds 70% to 40%.

Lawrenceville, VA-November 22, 2005: St. Paul’s College defeated the University of the District of Columbia in doubleheader games tonight in Lawrenceville, Virginia. The Lady Firebirds fell to the Lady Tigers in the first game of the evening by the score of 61-68.

September 8, 2005 - Washington, DC—University of the District of Columbia President William L. Pollard, today, announced the appointment of Julius L. Smith, Jr. as the University’s new men’s basketball head coach. This appointment marks the reinstatement of the UDC Firebirds men’s basketball program, which was suspended for the 2004-05 season because of concerns about reported ineligibility issues.
