Director of Athletics Patricia Thomas announced that former Firebird All-American Simone Grant has been chosen as the next University of the District of Columbia Head Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.

"Simone took advantage of many opportunities presented to her while she attended the University of the District of Columbia. As a highly successful student-athlete, she has transitioned into coaching extremely well and will build on the academic and athletic success of our program," Thomas said. "Her thorough knowledge of the university, the East Coast Conference, as well as her understanding of NCAA Division II overall strengthens her ability to effectively lead. I look forward to working with Simone in this new role."

After serving as a volunteer assistant coach for the Firebirds, Simone founded the No Limit Track and Field camp in New York, New York. Her experiences include sports performance coaching and personal training. Grant currently serves as a US Track & Field Association official. For the past three years, Simone served as head coach of short sprints at the Success Academy High School of Liberal Arts in New York City where her student-athletes excelled nationally against collegiate and professional programs.

Simone earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education at UDC in 2017. The 2016 Dr. Marjorie Holloman Parker Health Promotion Award winner and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Simone served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was an athletic trainer intern. An integral member of the historic women's track & field team that won both the East Coast Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships, Simone was East Coast Conference Championship Co-Athlete of the Year in 2016, was cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field MVP in 2015, East Coast Conference Championship Athlete of the Year in 2015, and is a three time track and field All-American.
