Athletics Hall of Fame Eligibility to Nominate

Nominations for the Athletics Hall of Fame will be accepted by:

  1. Hall of Fame Committee members
  2. Individuals who have attended one of the nine legacy institutions associated with the University of the District of Columbia
  3. Individuals who have served as faculty or staff at one of the nine legacy institutions associated with the University of the District of Columbia
  4. Immediate family members of the Nominee

Selection Criteria

Nominees must be student-athletes, coaches and administrators who have significantly contributed to the success and athletic history of the University of the District of Columbia and its legacy institutions as named above. Nominees must meet the criteria as defined below for each individual category.

Athletics Hall of Fame Categories and Criteria for Nominees

1. Student-Athletes

  • A nominee must have graduated from one of the nine legacy institutions, as previously named, connected to the University of the District of Columbia’s history.
  • Athletic participation at the university must be verified.
  • A ten year waiting period must occur from the date the nominee last participated at the university.
  • While athletic achievement is of prime importance, significant contributions to the community at large while at the University, or since departing the University, may also be a factor in selecting nominees for inclusion to the University of the District of Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame.
  • A person nominated must be of high principle and character, and they must also have displayed good sportsmanship and leadership skills while a student-athlete.
  • Nominees must have lettered at least twice in one sport or once each in two different sports.
  • Deceased nominees shall be given equal consideration in all categories of student-athletes, coaches and administrators. To receive posthumous selection to the University of the District of Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame any waiting period may be waived by vote of the committee.

2. Coaches

  • Coaching participation at the University must be verified.
  • There will be no predetermined time period for years of service at the University.
  • A three year waiting period must occur from the date the nominee last coached at the University.
  • Considerations for selection include but are not limited to: recognition as a significant contributor to the sport and/or the community at large, being a person of high character and principle at the time chosen, and must have left the position at the time nominated.
  • Deceased nominees shall be given equal consideration in all categories of student-athletes, coaches and administrators. To receive posthumous selection to the University of the District of Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame any waiting period may be waived by vote of the committee.

3. Administrators

  • Administrative participation at the University must be verified.
  • There will be no predetermined time period for years of service at the University.
  • A three year waiting period must occur from the date the nominee last worked at the University.
  • Considerations for selection include but are not limited to: recognition as a significant contributor to the athletic program and/or the community at large, being a person of high character and principle at the time chosen, and must have left the position at the time chosen.
  • Deceased nominees shall be given equal consideration in all categories of student-athletes, coaches and administrators. To receive posthumous selection to the University of the District of Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame any waiting period may be waived by vote of the committee.
