Firebird's Top 12 Moments for 2017-2018:

  1. Overall GPA for all student-athletes was above 3.0
  2. Victor Salinas Furio and Gabriel Torres became the university's first men's soccer Academic All-Americans
  3. Victor Salinas Furio (men's soccer) and Temera Duncan (women's indoor track & field) received East Coast Conference Elite 18 Awards (presented to the student-athlete competing in each of the conference championships with the highest GPA)
  4. Men's soccer student-athlete Liam Haycock becomes 4th Firebird to win the East Coast Conference Community & Character Award
  5. Men's soccer advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship
  6. Gabriel Torres (men's soccer) earned First Team All-American honors
  7. Roc Bozic (men's tennis) earned ITA East Region Player of the Year Award
  8. Alexis Baguelin (men's tennis) received the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award
  9. Teilen Celentano (men's lacrosse) finishes his career 2nd in the nation in face-off attempts and 3rd in the nation in face-off's won
  10. Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto (men's tennis) finish 7th in the nation in doubles play at the Oracle Cup
  11. Shannel Hibbert (women's track & field) earns ECC First Team honors
  12. Bennie Adams, Jr. (DCTC '66), Phillip Stevens, Jr. (DCTC '76), Carolyn Wells (UDC '80), Alice Butler (UDC '84) and Edwin B. Henderson  (Miner '1904) are inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame

Firebird's Top 12 Moments for 2017-2018

WASHINGTON D.C -This has been an exciting year for Firebirds Athletics! We celebrated many momentous occasions both on and off the field and are excited to share some highlights of Firebirds who exemplify Aspire- Accomplish- Take on the World!

We pride ourselves on having well-rounded student-athletes who are as dedicated to academics as they are to their sport. The overall average GPA for all 111 student-athletes was above 3.0.

Victor Salinas Furio and Gabriel Torres became our first men's soccer Academic All-Americans.

Two of our student-athletes received one of the most prestigious honors in the East Coast Conference. Victor Salinas Furio (men's soccer) and Temera Duncan (women's indoor track & field) received East Coast Conference Elite 18 Awards. This award is presented to the student-athlete competing in each of the conference championships with the highest GPA.

Our Firebirds set the bar high for community service and leadership! Men's soccer student-athlete Liam Haycock (men's soccer) became the fourth Firebird to win the East Coast Conference Community & Character Award.
