Seven Tennis Student-Athletes Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Status

TEMPE, AZ – Seven University of the District of Columbia tennis student-athletes received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Scholar –Athlete honor. Men's tennis athletes Alexis Baguelin, Rok Bozic, Marco Feligioni, Josip Marinic; and women's tennis athletes Anastasiia Danylova, Dominika Hadnadova, and Paula Avellan were honored with Scholar- Athlete status for the 2017-2018 academic year.

ITA Scholar- Athlete status is awarded to players that have maintained at least a 3.50 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year, have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters, and have been awarded a varsity letter.

Adding to this ITA honor, Bozic was also named ITA Senior Player of the Year in the East Region for 2018. Baguelin, received the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award for his academic achievements and extracurricular activities. Hadnadova, earned Women's Tennis 2nd Team All-East Coast Conference Distinction. 

UDC's men's and women's tennis teams were also awarded the ITA All-Academic team award. This honor is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or above on a 4.0 scale. Head Coach Mahaffey has expressed great pride in his team's athletic and academic ability, "I'm very proud of both teams' continued excellence in the classroom and on the court."
