Emmanuela Katou Kouami- Track & Field

"I had no plans on continuing track after high school, but UDC saw potential in me and recruited me to join the Firebird community." For junior thrower Emmanuela Katou Kouami, the journey to the University of the District of Columbia has been nothing short of transformative. Initially stepping away from competitive athletics after high school, Emmanuela found her fire rekindled when UDC offered her a scholarship opportunity that combined both her academic aspirations and athletic talent.

"I decided to come to UDC for a few reasons. First, the location is amazing, I wanted to live in a big city- I didn't want to live on a campus in the middle of nowhere. So living in the capital of the U.S was something very attractive. UDC also has a lot of opportunities both academically and athletically. The tennis team was looking good and I had a great relationship with the coach so that was a big plus. My agent Alexis Baguelin, is a UDC men's tennis Alum and he told me that he had a very good experience. What I really like about UDC is that everyone is here to take care of you
